Oslo was the first stop of our trip! We just had the day & were exhausted from the flight but its a gorgeous city...one of the cleanest & most efficiently run I've been in. Candace & I felt like we were on a movie set the entire time. We really just wandered around all day...spent some time exploring the old fortress, ate lunch by the water, and napped on the banks of the opera house. Best part was we didn't spend any money in the city, just the train fare out & back. Norway's incredibly expensive so that was a huge plus. I'd love to go back and spend some time up by the fjords...might have to start planning trip number two
I have WiFi! Sort of loved being disconnected but there are a million things I want to document, it feels like I've been gone for months already. Candace & I are now in Croatia...we're staying in a perfect flat just east of the old city for the next two weeks. Should have WiFi the whole time we're here so updates to come!
Things I've learned: -old Croatian men like to dance for Candace -you can pay for produce with a kiss on the cheek -laundry detergent is a great, great thing I'm in New Jersey! My flight was delayed getting here but my mom snuck a boarding pass and surprised me by the gate to wait with me. Isn't she the best? (miss you already mama) Candace & I spent today running errands and figuring out how in the world we'd fit everything in our packs. So far we've managed to stay under the weight limit but both packs are an inch or two over the max height. With some light(ish) pressure to the top, they do squish down quite nicely to the allowed 55cm...so we're thinking we'll be fine. Might be wishful but being optimistic is the right way to start the trip. Oslo bound tomorrow!
Not sure if this qualifies as post worthy but everyone should download VIBER...it's what I'll be using to text & call stateside. I'm pretty sure it only needs wifi on my end and then I can connect with anyone who has it and you can send me nice pictures of your face like this...
Candace & I are strictly traveling carry-on so everything needs to fit in my pack, compress down to 55x40x23cm and be under 22lbs. Not a small task (especially when bringing a tent). My pack's a NorthFace Terra 40L...probably the smallest pack I could manage for this trip. Smaller pack = less weight = happy camper. The tents a Mountain Hardwear LightWedge model and weighs just under 6lb which is relatively light for a tent. My toiletries hold a good bit of weight but I have to bring what I have to bring. Same goes for the cleats. Clothes are pretty light but take up a good amount of pack space. I'm using eBags to compress & organize everything and would highly recommend them! My sleeping bag, daypack, towel, and pillow are all lightweight and compactable...don't think I could have fit everything otherwise.
I'll post a picture when it's all packed and give the final weigh-in...fingers crossed! |
